man this just makes me adore my boots even more

anyway i realise it's been a while since i posted.. which is weird 'cause i don't feel like very much time has passed at all? back in singapore something feels weird if i don't blog for more than two days.

this past week has been passing in slow motion, i swear. had inordinate quantities of monti 'cause of all the make-up classes, and that's great 'cause, well, 1. i love the man and 2. you can never have enough help for obligations. have vague suspicion that he actually possesses seven brains. need to find a way to prove this.

hung out with adam for a bit today 'cause of the muse launch. basically sat around sniggering at other people like we always do. it's sad how we bond over racism, food and general bitchery.. hahaha not really a healthy friendship if you ask me.

oh and i've decided to go for crush tmr!!!! despite it's inevitable, never-failing, overwhelming nastiness. oh dear. i never learn.

k bedtimez bye cruel world

We all need time [Mar. 18th, 2010★06:14 pm]

spotlightkids
[Mood |hopefulhopeful]

Toe to toe, there's nowhere to go
So I'm tiptoeing around it
I held you down and I held my own
And now I feel like I'm floating

So turn to this
Head on
And keep on
Keeping on

I'll need heart and you'll need courage
We all need time
---
Don't you know, nobody knows
If there's somebody waiting
So you'll hold yourself up and you'll hold yourself in
And then pray that you are growing

And turn to this
Darkness
You turn it into light, and you'll turn too bright
Forget all the hype

You'll need heart and I'll need courage
We all need time

So let's make time work for us
Let's make time work for us
Let's make time work for us
Let's make time work for us

Let's take our precious time about it
Let's take our precious time about it
Let's take our precious time about it
Let's take our precious time about it
Let's take our precious time about it
Let's take our precious time about it
Let's take our precious time about

'cause we'll need heart and we'll need courage
In these times
We'll need heart and we'll need courage
In these times

Because time can mean so much
Are you still mine?

I'm slightly discouraged by what's facing me at the moment, I know very well that healing takes time to heal and that it will definitely heal, eventually, and i know i need more patience, But sometimes, i feel like even if it does heal, it'll never be the same. i'm scared i'll never be able to do what i was able to do ever again. Art-wise, the tutorial today cleared things up especially the post-presentation listlessness i have. I hate going to the hospital to get "things checked" when obviously the status of my knee remains the same. Its hard to get out of this well of self-pity and this wallowing but today especially i felt so disappointed about everything and everything feels hopeless, my essays which i have yet to plan/research for, my knee which still hurts and art practice which has a direction but no plans. I feel spent and i feel alone in trying to gather my own loose ends. This song makes me feel better though, the maccabees have been my playlist for the past 2 days now and have been mellowing music.

We'll need heart and we'll need courage, In these times,
so let's make time, work for us
let's make time work for us.

I don't know who really reads my lj, but i know everybody goes through rough patches at one point (or maybe it feels like a constant rough patch lol) but yea, let's just press on man, keep on keeping on, we're definitely getting somewhere!

As much as I love eljay - it's layouts, its interface, and the convenient friends list - I'm thinking of moving. I already have another blog set up; I just haven't had the heart to move.

I may or may not tell you the new address if you ask, if I trusted you enough. Those who do manage to get hold of it, please don't link me or spread the word around.

Okay, my dearest philliebellie has convinced me to go for COM223 today, so I will haul my butt off this chair and hit the shower.

LiveJournal Major Notes: Global navigation, Mobile, Bug fixes [Mar. 16th, 2010★03:33 pm]

news

[theljstaff]
[Tags|, , , , ]

We're going to keep this short and sweet (Frank and birthday vgifts will be back next week). You've probably seen the updates to our main menu. Don't be alarmed. You'll find everything you need, just in slightly shifted format. Just so you know, we based these changes on input from both experienced and new users who were not familiar with LiveJournal. Our goal was to reduce barriers to usability and make LiveJournal more accessible and easy to navigate. Please note that this is a work in progress. We welcome your detailed suggestions in [info]feedback. We thank you, in advance, for helping us improve your LiveJournal experience.

We've updated the global navigation menu:

Here's a quick breakdown of what you'll find where:
  • Scrapbook can now be found under Profile (thanks for your feedback, btw), along with Settings, Stats, and Edit Profile.
  • You'll find all the tools you need to post and update entries under Journal, which includes posting and editing entries, managing comments and tags, and customizing your journal's style.
  • Friends contains all of your friend settings, from filtering your Friends page to adding, removing, and finding new and existing friends on LiveJournal.
  • Under Communities, you'll find links to manage your communities, accept community invites, and create new communities.
  • Explore includes search features, RSS feeds, Question of the Day, and FRNK radio.
  • Under Shop, you'll find links to upgrade or give a paid account, buy virtual gifts, purchase LiveJournal merchandise (like T-shirts), and view your payment history.

LiveJournal Mobile update:

We've enhanced LiveJournal's mobile site to improve usability and load times. We've made more of LiveJournal's features accessible via mobile, including posting comments, uploading photos, reading and commenting on friends' posts, finding and messaging friends, and more. We look forward to reviewing your feedback and recommendations for future improvements.

Other important changes:

  • You can lock comments to prevent further commenting on a post, while leaving existing comments visible.
  • We replaced the "Tell a friend" link with a new "Share This" widget that lets you share LiveJournal posts on other social media sites, including Facebook, Digg, Twitter, etc.
  • We changed some of the icons on entries (you can hover over the icons to view descriptions).
  • You'll see a Tag count on your Tag management page.
  • You'll now see the 10 most recent vgifts on your profile page. To remove vgifts, left-click on the vgift and choose whether you want to remove the vgift from your profile or delete it entirely.
  • We've added options to help you control receipt of vgifts, which you'll find in My Stuff under Edit Profile. You can now enable vgifts from friends or everyone and disable anonymous vgifts.

We've got your fix:

  • UPDATE: Rolling several updates into one listing here -- 1) Scrapbook should be back and working again. 2) The problem with the Update Journal page in IE6 and IE7 should be fixed now. 3) The problem with the userpic add-on package pricing has been fixed and refunds issued to anyone who was overcharged while the erroneous prices were in place.
  • Non-conforming images will now be automatically resized for custom mood themes.
  • Line breaks no longer count as two characters against your entry's character limit.
  • We fixed a bug on the Manage Tags page so you can clear all tags and add new tags.
  • We corrected the UI for the update.bml page so it displays properly in IE8.
Thanks again for joining us. Frank and company will be back next week!

I feel strangely liberated. Maybe this situation has always been there, and I didn't want to see it earlier.

I apologize to those who felt awkward, and didn't know what to do. I didn't realise it'd already popped up on the newsfeed, because it didn't on mine.

heartbreak warfare [Mar. 15th, 2010★01:43 am]

[Mood |troubled]

Lightning strikes
Inside, my chest to keep me up at night
Dream of ways
To make you understand my pain

Clouds of sulfur in the air
Bombs are falling everywhere
It's heartbreak warfare
Once you want it to begin,
No one really every wins
In heartbreak warfare

If you want more love,
why don't you say so?

If you want more love,
why don't you say so?

Drop his name
Push it in and twist the knife again
Watch my face
As I pretend to feel no pain

Clouds of sulfur in the air
Bombs are falling everywhere
It's heartbreak warfare
Once you want it to begin,
No one really ever wins
In heartbreak warfare.

If you want more love,
why don't you say so?
If you want more love,
why don't you say so?

Just say so...

How come the only way to know how high you get me
is to see how far I fall
God only knows how much I'd love you if you let me
but I can't break through it all.

It's a heartbreak...

I don't care if we don't sleep at all tonight
Let's just fix this whole thing now

I swear to God we're gonna get it right
If you put your weapons down
Red wine and Ambien
You're talking shit again, it's heartbreak warfare
Good to know it's all a game
Disappointment has a name, it's heartbreak warfare.

-----

I've been feeling rather troubled lately. Mind and heart don't want to get along. There are also too many distractions and temptations that lie before me. I need to know if it's wrong for me to be thinking these thoughts, or if it's perfectly somewhat normal.

I need to sleep, but I can't because I need to prepare for the SMF advertisement presentation tomorrow.

God, help me.

sampower's livejournal reminded me of that, re-watched jeux d'enfants about two weeks ago and i still have absolutely no feelings about it. might be because there are too many great/horrible ones that they cancel each other out.

back from malaysia-singapore night unscathed, so i am proud and mostly relieved to say that my first solo singing performance wasn't terrible!! :D :D hip hop guys danced to jizz in my pants and that was epic, although in all fairness i thought zhiwei should've won. ah well

going to brixton for a bit tomorrow to perform for some women's festival thing. bellydance = female empowerment..? i don't know how you link this up but maybe it's the whole cockteasing thing. hahahaaa what a thought.

can't really articulate how i'm feeling now 'cause i'm in bed with hot tea and it's nice and chilly outside. sometimes i wish i could stop time and just stone like this for indeterminate periods. nothing feels better than doing nothing these days!!! k going to skim vogue and that special supplement i stole from spitalfields before crashing :D

CS Week: Fête 10 is overrrrrrr!

Congratulations to all those who won various awards and prizes, and a huge THANK YOU to all the lovely people of WKWSCI for participating in our events and giving us your support. I hope at the end of the day, we all had fun! ((:

I feel relieved, yet quite disheartened. To make the event a success, I had to climb over other people, especially those close to me. Yes, everything went somewhat smoothly, but at whose expense?

I hate how when I'm stressed and frazzled I morph into Frankenstein's monster and trample over the people whose hearts I'm supposed to take care of.

Pointless nostalgic [Mar. 12th, 2010★04:38 pm]

spotlightkids
[Mood |cheerfulcheerful]

about 2 weeks more and winter term will officially end, i am very much looking forward to a break.
although i have to admit, i've been trying to take it slow these days, i feel like i can actually afford to sleep more!

but there are somethings that have precipitated and i think they will be here to stay and that makes life a bit more tiring, trying to deal with it, but as my mum would say, you still have to lead your life. Your day is brighter is you simply just ignore, and accept that not everyone is and will be like you. ever.

that aside, i started my day slow ( woke up a bit later than usual, cos gymming yesterday tired me out much, my leg is really feeling tired, but i know i must persevere!) and managed to visit 2 galleries that i'd been looking at during the week (one of them closed down all of a sudden omg). In a sense, i enjoyed this little day out, cos i had some me time, just to chill on the bus, read a bit, and listen to music on my poddie.
<3
i love days like these. but in a sense, despite it being quite lovely to ride and walk alone in London, I do feel lonely and miss home and friends much especially when i come across things they'd like.

Like how today, i came across this very quaint polish cafe/grocer (both were alongside each other). The shop was oh so simple and their shop name was simply scrawled across the top with black paint. No fancy decorations, no fancy signboard. In fact i didn't know that it was actually a shop until i peeped in and saw small groups of people eating ( there was bloody condensation on the cafe window, and i am short hur.)
Every little table had a block of butter on a small white dish lined with blue paint, and there were earthy looking ceramic dishes hung on one side, along with some old-fahioned speakers. But i think what was the most attractive about it was this..humble and homely feeling that it exuded i suppose. I think this was partly because of what looked like very authentic poor people looking dishes, and the food that peeked out of it! There was no music playing, but the chattering of the people was nice nonetheless. ahah all this while i waited for my sandwich.

The fact that i've written quite a bit about this place shows how exicited i am to chance upon this really quaint shop.i bought a sandwich (take-away) cos i was trying to find the other gallery, but i definitely won't mind going again. I suppose the area it was in was sorta eastern european-ish: the gallery i visited was right opposite the cafe and it's handled by a russian and was about eastern european identities.
It made me think of my sister pamela and nic who would appreciate this sorta thing.

there, 2 little shots of this cafe i've fallen in love with. i will be back :D (it's called leia's cafe btw) hurhur.
ok i'm going off now cos joyce, shangyi and i are gonna catch a show called nation at national theatre :D yayness.

goodbais.

LiveJournal Major Notes: March header, Charitable vgift, Squirrels in love [Mar. 11th, 2010★04:11 pm]

news

[theljstaff]
[Tags|, , , , , , ]

We're finishing up a few odds and ends before our next major release. Our mighty Ops guys continue to slay spambots and balance load times on a highwire without a safety net (which is kind of tough dressed in full ninja gear). Down on solid ground, we're celebrating this week's virtual birthday party with a warm toast to pants. If you can rearrange the letters of your favorite city, state, and/or country (feel free to combine these elements) to spell one of Frank's favorite treats (e.g., pants, wire, paper, etc.), he'll send you over a can of whipped cream to top it all off (provided you return the empty can for his midnight snack)! And, with that, let the word scrambling commence!

Stuff you should know:

  • We're still working on the delayed/missing notifications issue. Sorry, we're frustrated too. We'll keep you posted.
  • Last week, we became aware that a recently-implemented script was overwriting affiliate referral fees for some of our users. Once we confirmed this, our Ops team quickly removed the script. Please be aware that, while we may beta-test other affiliate scripts down the line, we will take greater measures to ensure that no existing user-referral arrangements are impacted in any way.
  • While we plan to stick to a weekly news schedule, if we have a release in between regular newsletters, we'll post here to keep you informed. You can also check [info]lj_releases for current release information.

To our paid users, we send squirrels in love!

If you have a paid or permanent account, you can send five free Squirrels in love vgifts through Monday, March 15th at 4pm, PST! You'll see both the free and the $0.99 squirrels displayed until they've scurried off to their new homes. Please send only one vgift at a time. In other words, you'll need to complete check-out and start a new order for each vgift you send. If you're not receiving vgifts (from friends and/or Frank), you may have disabled them. To enable vgifts, visit Edit profile (under Profile), scroll down to the bottom of the page, and select 'Do not disable' from the drop-down menu. Have fun!

Help is on the way!

We're pleased to announce the winner of our first charitable vgift poll, Doctors without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières, which provides critical medical care to under-served populations around the world. Priced at $2.99, we'll donate 100 percent of the proceeds we raise from the sale of this vgift (we'll cover credit card fees). We invite you to start recommending nonprofits for our next fundraising drive at [info]ljnewscontests. We'll take suggestions through the month and post a poll in the news during the first week of April to let you choose the recipient. We thank you, again, for your passion and generosity.

We've crowned a header

Congratulations to [info]ohterlus for submitting the winning header, which will go live next week and keep us leafy through mid-April! You can submit designs for our next header contest at [info]ljnewscontests now until March 31st. We'll post a poll in the news to let you decide which header will sit at the top of LiveJournal from mid-April to mid-May. All artistic interpretations are welcome. The winner will get a $25 LiveJournal gift certificate. All other contributors will receive $5 gift certificates. Our heartfelt appreciation for sharing your talent and creativity!

For this week's winning photo and more adventures with Frank & Meme, we'll catch you under the cut!
